Serra, Espírito Santo, April 5, 2022 – A new broadband internet operator begins operating in Brazil. This is OBVIOUS Fibra, which arrives with the proposal to conquer 4 million customers in the next 5 years, and which will initially operate using V.tal’s neutral fiber optic network. The company starts its operations in the country today, with the launch of ultra-speed internet service in 35 neighborhoods in the city of Serra, Espírito Santo, with a pilot project.

OBVIOUS Fibra is a “tel-tech” startup that is investing in the Brazilian telecommunications market, offering a differentiated service to customers. The term “tel-tech” refers to a telecommunications startup that uses technology as its main differentiator from traditional companies in the sector.

“The telecommunications sector, together with the financial services sector, have the highest number of dissatisfied users. Therefore, we want to be the first tel-tech in Brazil that delivers the obvious that no one offers so far: fast, affordable and high quality internet, with a transparent and fair price, as well as impeccable customer service. Doing what has to be done is already disruptive in the sector and our proposal is to be the most desired brand in digital connectivity in Brazil in the coming years, says Gonzalo Fernández Castro, founder and president of OBVIOUS Fibra, in addition to being the first investor, along with other executives from the technology and telecom industry and venture capital funds from Brazil and abroad. Gonzalo is Argentinian, holds an MBA from Harvard and was, until 2020, Head of Private Equity for Latin America of one of the largest managers in the world, Partners Group.

By choosing to rent V.tal’s fiber optic infrastructure, which is the largest in the country with 15 million homes passed available for fiber optic internet contracting and with an expansion plan for 32 million homes passed in 2025, OBVIOUS Fibra does not need to make investments in connectivity infrastructure, directing all available capital in the provision of content, marketing and customer service, with a native technological support. With this, it is able to implement the entire service in a shorter period of time, also starting its commercial actuation in a faster way.

“One of the advantages of V.tal’s neutral network is that it favors the emergence of new entrants in the telecommunications sector; that is, more investments, more jobs and more options for consumers. Enabling the entry of a new player in the Brazilian internet market consolidates our strategy of acting as a neutral network company”, says Pedro Arakawa, Chief Commercial Officer of V.tal.

OBVIOUS Fibra starts its operation in the city of Serra, Espírito Santo, offering its first customers a “tasting period” during the first year, in which the customer receives 500Mbps of speed when contracting the 200Mbps package. In the next six months, OBVIOUS will gradually expand its operation to 24 new cities, distributed in eight states, in the South, Southeast and Midwest regions, plus the Federal District, in partnership with V.tal, which will be the company responsible for the FTTH network (fiber to the home of the customer) in more than 4.2 million households in these locations.
