São Paulo, February 27, 2023 – Cisco announces today that it is working with V.tal to increase the capacity of its neutral multi-tenant fiber optic network in Brazil to accelerate the delivery of 5G services and enable the Internet for the Future, expanding connectivity across the country.

V.tal is the first end-to-end neutral fiber optic network company in the Brazilian market and holds the largest infrastructure in the country, with 450,000 kilometers of ground-based fiber optics connecting more than 2,380 municipalities in Brazil. Working with Cisco and mobile operators, V.tal aims to accelerate 5G deployment across Brazil, helping fulfill the country’s ambition to bring high-quality connectivity everywhere.

V.tal’s network is one of the first neutral digital infrastructure deployments, enabling multiple mobile and fixed service providers to share infrastructure cost-effectively. By sharing V.tal’s network, providers and operators are able to accelerate time to market and also focus on generating revenue from new 5G services.

Cisco’s converged and automated end-to-end transport architecture, with Routed Optical Networking and Segment Routing, will make deploying and managing the fiber optic network easier and more cost-effective, as well as increasing capacity for V.tal. It will also provide V.tal such flexibility and agility to add capacity and expand the network as operator and customer connectivity demands continue to grow.

“At V.tal, we are committed to our neutral network strategy to expand beyond the 20 million households already served with fiber optic internet, accelerate 5G deployment, and deliver service-related innovations to our customers across Brazil,” says Cicero Olivieri, V.tal’s vice president of engineering. “Our purpose is to transform people’s lives through connectivity and increase digital inclusion in the country, and working with Cisco will help us increase the capacity of our neutral fiber optic network enabling 5G and the Internet for the future.”

“At Cisco, our goal is to provide an inclusive future for all,” said Bill Gartner, senior vice president and general manager, Cisco Optical Systems and Optics. “It is an honor to see Cisco’s technology drive V.tal’s goal of bringing connectivity everywhere in Brazil while enabling its 5G network services. Our Routed Optical Networking architecture provides the foundation that will serve them now and in the future as the dynamics of IP+Optical integration continue.”
