Porto Alegre, September 4, 2023 – V.tal, a global end-to-end neutral digital infrastructure solutions company, operating in Brazil and 6 other countries in South and North America, presented today, in Porto Alegre (RS), a new project to build another edge data center, the company’s first in the southern region of the country. The new facility will have total power of 6MW and support for 400 racks in an area of 7,000m2, with investments of about R$ 250 million.

The project is part of the company’s data center expansion plan in Brazil and Colombia to meet the growing digital demands of operators, providers and OTTs, which require quality service to process a high volume of data and deliver applications with very low latency.

“The concept of the Edge Data Center is precisely to bring the data storage infrastructure closer to consumers and, therefore, reduce latency or response time. Increasingly, content providers want to be closer to their users in order to offer them a better experience when using applications. We chose Rio Grande do Sul because it is a state undergoing rapid technological development, has a strong and active ecosystem and a privileged location to serve customers from the southern cone countries”, says Felipe Campos, Vice President of Wholesale at V.tal.

V.OA will be fully integrated with the company’s other 4 edge data centers (2 in Fortaleza, 1 in Rio de Janeiro and 1 more in Barranquilla, Colombia), which connect with submarine cable arrival stations in the United States, Bermuda, Colombia, Venezuela and Argentina to Chile and the extensive terrestrial fiber optic network present in all Brazilian states.

The data center segment has been growing and this pace is expected to continue in the coming years due to new technologies that are emerging such as 5G, AI and IoT. These innovations demand a resilient infrastructure, with redundancy and very low latency, in addition to capillarity and the capacity to transport large volumes of data. V.tal, with its robust digital infrastructure and presence in the Americas, will be the great enabler of these solutions”, complements Campos.

The construction work on the “V.OA”, in Porto Alegre, is expected to begin this year, with opening scheduled for the second half of 2024. Once ready, it will be connected to V.tal’s Rotas Expressas, a new data transport service with multiple capacities of 100 Gbps, on the São Paulo – Porto Alegre route.

As part of its expansion plan, V.tal will inaugurate, still in 2023, its second edge data center in Barranquilla, Colombia. It also recently acquired new land in Fortaleza for the construction of the “Mega Lobster”, a hyperscale data center that should start operating in 2025 and which will be the company’s third in the capital of Ceará.
