Part of the Norte Conectado (Connected North) program, the 1,100 km stretch will allow the company redundancy in the stretch between Manaus and Alenquer, increasing network resilience and data traffic capacity

São Paulo, December 26, 2022 – V.tal, an end-to-end digital infrastructure solutions company and holder of the largest neutral fiber optic network in Brazil, is one of 12 companies selected by the Ministry of Communications to be part of the Open Consortium of the Neutral Operator that will operate Infovia 01, of the Norte Conectado Program, which through a subfluvial fiber optic cable connects the cities of Santarém to Manaus, passing through another 8 municipalities.

The installation of the fiber optic cable that forms the section called Infovia 01 must be completed by the end of January, which will allow it to be operational as early as March 2023. Each consortium company that will operate this infrastructure will use 1 fiber pair, each supporting up to 40 optical channels with a capacity of at least 100 Gbps. V.tal will operate, maintain and use this network commercially for an initial period of 15 years.

The main objective of V.tal’s participation in the Norte Conectado Program is to give redundancy to the ground-based network that it already has in that region, balancing and optimizing existing data traffic, in addition to increasing capacity. With this, the end users of its customers – operators and internet providers – start to have internet connectivity with redundancy and greater resilience, considerably improving the quality of service.

As a member of the consortium, V.tal will also be able to use its fiber pair to connect existing cities along the stretch such as Óbidos, Juriti, Oriximiná and Terra Santa, in Pará; Parintins, Urucurituba, Itacoatiara and Autazes, in Amazonas. Many of them now have a radio-only internet connection.

“As a neutral network company and owner of the largest fiber optic infrastructure in the country, V.tal can offer operators and/or providers our Wholesale connectivity services, as well as the FTTH (Fiber To The Home) service, which brings high-speed internet to the customer’s home,” explains Cícero Olivieri, V.tal’s Vice President of Engineering.

The executive refers to the shared neutral network model of fiber optic infrastructure, which can be used by multiple providers and operators. The advantage is that they stop investing in the implementation and maintenance of their own cables to take advantage of V.tal’s ready-made network, thus allowing rapid expansion to new locations and a better return on their investment.

“For internet providers, this is a very efficient, financially sustainable and inclusive business model, because it offers the possibility of offering high-speed internet in the most distant locations, at competitive prices, very quickly. Thus, several other internet-based businesses are favored, increasing the population’s access to information, digitizing the local economy, improving the lives of everyone in the region,” concludes Olivieri.
